awesome giveaway!

oh what a night!

So Saturday brought record heats to the south, but I wasn't feeling it. Nope, I was nice and comfy inside Page & Palette bookstore eagerly awaiting the arrival of one Richelle Mead.

The crowd grew - both in size and buzzed anticipation - as Ms. Mead made her way into the "spotlight" for some great reading and Q& A...she's so tiny!

This is the first author signing I've attended and I must say, it was a blast! So much fun to be in the company of people who love books as much as I do. You could feel the energy in the place as the night drew to a close - no one wanted it to end (except maybe for Richelle Mead, of course!).

I chose not to take my camera - a last-minute decision I now regret. I didn't want to seem overly eager or weird, mainly because I consider myself a bit "old" for the YA crowd. But once I got there, I saw that a great number of people in the group were closer (or past) my age and they were flashing cameras around like dollar bills at a strip club. So I would've been fine. (** note to self: next time don't worry about how goofy/ridiculous/out of place you'll look and take your dang camera!)

If you want to see some photos, check out Richelle Mead's blog here.

4 for 1, folks!

Head on over to The First Novels Club and enter for your chance to win 4 signed NYT Bestselling novels! That's right, guys...four of 'em! So what are you still doing here? GO...NOW!

another question for you guys...

You all were so helpful with my last conundrum that I thought, "what better group to pose another toughie to?" So here goes.

My MC, Everly, has to complete a task in order to save her own life. This task is very time-consuming (So time-consuming, in fact, that I plan on extending this into a trilogy), and the question I seem to be stumped on is whether or not to begin my story with Everly already in the midst of trying to accomplish said goal (i.e. 10 apples out of 100 found) or have her just beginning. I tend to lean toward putting her in the thick of it, that way she's already deep in the intensity of trying to reach the finish line.

Am I wrong? Should I begin with Everly going about her normal day until the problem falls into her life and she has to find a way to solve it? Or should I have her elbows-deep in the middle of trying to survive?

Where would you begin?

author sighting!

Tonight I get the immense pleasure of seeing (up close and in person) the fabulous author of the Vampire Academy series, Richelle Mead!

She's coming to Mobile, where she'll be speaking and signing at Page and Palette, a wonderful family-owned bookstore.  If you happen to live in the area (and you happen to be a reader of my blog) then come on out and show your support!  It's gonna be fun, I'm sure!

I'll do my best to get some pics for all to see...but don't hold me to it!

boy or girl?

So I know it's been a few days since I was last on here, and for that I apologize. That thing called life got in my way!  But I'm back, and with a question I hope can be answered here.

My writing genre of choice is YA paranormal. I absolutely love reading it and writing about it...but I'm torn over my MC. Should I write from the perspective of a boy (since I was once, many moons ago, a boy) or does it matter? Will potential readers enjoy the story more if they know the author is writing at least from the same sex?

Help me out here, folks. What do you guys think? Should I stick with the current female lead I have, or should I send her on her merry way and replace her with a male lead?

And what about your MCs?  Are they 100% different from you (in every way!) or do you stick with what you feel you know the most about?
